Songwriter's Showcase

Every Monday night at The Players Pub, you can walk in and see 4 songwriters sitting side by side, sharing their songs & the stories behind them. STELLA & JANE along with Dave McConnel (from the Lopers) and Mark Haggarty (from Fire) championed the effort to bring a 'Nashville-style' writers night back home to Bloomington. With some hailing from as far away as Toronto, DIFFERENT WRITERS are featured every week from 8-10pm. There is never a cover charge for this show. For more information, check out their MySpace page.

The new Stella & Jane CD is getting close!!

Recording began in early 2008, and it's been a blast! Stella, Jane and Jeff are working with owner/engineer Dave Weber at Airtime Studio, and are pleased as can be with the process. Dave is a very smooth engineer, quick as greased lightening, and has great ears plus his own innate musicality to bring to our project. Airtime is a lovely studio as well, very well designed, located deep in the country just northeast of Bloomington. Highly recommended.

We're ramping up the sonics on this one. While S&J is at its core an acoustic trio (and the first S&J album reflected that configuration quite nicely), on the new (as yet untitled) album the jams feature Stella on vocals and acoustic guitar, Jane on vocals and mandolin, and Jeff on vocals, acoustic, classic and electric guitars, MIDI guitar/synth, 5-string banjo and bass guitar.

But we didn't stop there! Longtime friend and Indy drummer Ron Fife has contributed his solid drumming and percussion, and Brown County icon Slats Klug dropped by to add his in-the-pocket versatility on piano, organ, harmonica and squeezebox. And that's not the end of it by any means... just wait till the release to catch the full lineup of guest musicians!

These things always take longer than you anticipate going into the endeavor. We were shooting for an early Spring release, but it'll probably be more like early Summer before we're done tracking, mixing, packaging and duping the CD and ramping up the official release machinery. But that's no big thing -- fact is, we are very excited about the project, very pleased with what we have in the can, and optimistic that S&J fans will see this release as a major step up for the band.

So... want a taste of what we're doing?

Up on the right, there are some play-buttons to some of the rough mixes we've gathered so far. Repeat -- these are rough, unmastered mixes, spun originally just for us to listen to and plan our next moves. Here's your chance to listen to a bit of our "work in progress", to hear what we're hearing. The final release will be even better!

Oh... and check out the bonus track of Memories of Zagreb by our man in charge of guitar madness, Jeff Foster. We often perform this tune in concert.

Stay tuned.
